Glamour, beautiful people, fun, and good compensation. Those are only a few expectations that I have before I join the call center industry. I was not disappointed when it comes to my expectation. The industry really offers all of those.
Glamour. Many call center agents really dress to impress. They have what the latest offering the fashion industry has. Skinny jeans, Havaianas as the popular choice of flip-flops, flirty tops and skirt, from killer designer stilettos for girls to extra pointed designer leather shoes for men, designer shirt and accessories to boot. Latest gadgets were also an additional definition to the word glamour. No, wonder if you would be able to see call center agents within the vicinity tinkering on the latest model of phone that they have, listening to music with their ipods, or surfing the net using their laptops.
Fun. Definitely, you will gonna get tired of having fun. From morning beers, eat all you can breakfast and the highly anticipated out of town trips. May it be the beaches of Puerto Galera, Palawan, Batangas, or Boracay. Other popular choices are Baguio, Bohol, and Laguna’s offering of hot springs. Of course, there are the undying house parties. With all of these being mention, follows the flirtatious way of having fun. Obviously, we cannot take it away from the picture.
Beautiful people. The call center world is the easiest ticket to meet this people. They are everywhere in the office building. Whatever type of man or woman you dig you can find them all in the industry. There is the typical girl or boy nextdoor, ultimate dream jock, the bikini babe and some aspiring actors, actresses and models. I am not saying that that this offering was only for heterosexual. Homosexual community should not be disappointed; the industry also offers many choices for the third sex.
Finally, everyone is earning good. Basically, they can have and spend on something that they really want. Being part of the industry once I can say that this people where a good catch. You can have a trophy for boyfriend or girlfriend. Imagine someone at your side that can posses the attitude of being glamorous and knows how to have a lot of fun. Isn’t it great? By the way I might forget, isn’t it romantic having someone that can recite your favorite poem with their modulated voice and flawless English accent? Since they are earning good, a tendency to spoil you is not impossible.
What is really behind this beautiful and tempting façade?
The industry is such a complicated world. Sometimes, friends were not really friends. Only a few can play a fair game. Everybody would do everything to get what he or she want, may it be for promotion or anything that interests them. People were very loud mouthed; a secret is not actually a secret. The truth is sometimes a lie. A world of bitches, wherein they are trying to outlast each other, and they came in different types. There were some silent killers and some were out front attackers. Survival of the fittest, indeed.
I have read an article before stating that being a call center agent is having a “job from hell”. If you will going to take a literal perception on that statement, you would only think that, since it is a graveyard shift. Try to analyze that statement on a deeper perception. Many unusual acts happened in the industry, it is more chaotic than what other people who has not been in the industry think about. Something odd happen, and it will not going to take a couple of days for everybody to know. Agents are a professional gossiper. Gossip is the favorite menu. May it be in the pantry, work floor, or the most popular smoking area.
There were individuals who will going to use their good looks just to get away with anything. If you are lucky, enough you can be laid in a split second. Well, premarital sex is a common practice in the industry. Imagine seeing the person that you had sex, every single day, even there is no special relationship between the two of you. You just have to act as if nothing happened. Sex is everywhere. Parking lots, basement, not commonly used washrooms, or even the washroom of the nearby fastfood chains and restaurants. Just one flick of a finger and you can have partner anywhere, everywhere. It is just a matter of proper timing. Common let us not be hypocrite, it happens. Another practice, which I think is ridiculous, is polygamy. In all honesty, it is very common. Even two married individuals were getting it on. The reason behind that, people involve in such kind of act, states that, their partner cannot satisfy their needs. Is it really a need? Or just a pure form of lust? Even marriage was being jeopardized of such an act. I cannot speak on their behalf. However, who am I to judge? I am just another member of this industry who has my own imperfections.
People know how to play their game. They lay their cards on a proper timing. Some women use their beautiful faces to get favors from male colleagues. Men can’t resist a beautiful woman; they will give in no matter what. Women in the call center industry know how to use their advantage. Sex sometimes is involved to get favors from men. As what some women put it, “It is just sex and nothing else!”. I pity those men whose private organ is not at all private. Girls will be girls. In a matter of time, everybody knows how the penis of their one nightstand partner looks like, in full details. The size, the color, and texture. You’ll going to be a laughing stock if you are not well endowed down under or if you are lame in bed. Mean girls!!! Some good-looking men use their good looks to take advantage of unsuspecting gays and girls’ officemate. There might be no sexual relationship all the time, but these men are not putting their good looks into waste. I heard a case wherein Mr. Perfect actually asks one colleague to buy him a cellphone and promise that he will going to pay in installment basis. The girl unsuspecting that she is, since they are already privately dating agrees to do so. Surprise!!! The guy resigned with the cellphone in tow. Scheming bastard. It’s too unprofessional.
Same sex relationship is not unusual in the call center industry. You’ll gonna be surprised that your ideal good looking men is actually dating an equally good looking guy. Sometimes the other one is committed, not just committed but also sometimes married. The guy will even shout to the whole world how he loves his wife and kids. If they only know that he is a screaming fag!!! Some hide in the closet others were proud about it. It doesn’t matter, you can tell who is who. It doesn’t only apply to gay men but also with lesbians. Who would have thought that this two beautiful lady in stilettos and miniskirts were having an affair. Interesting, right? Though their publicity was they were just bestfriends, but actions really speaks louder than words. Men just sigh in disbelief realizing that they don’t deserve a single chance from these beautiful ladies.
Another issue in the call center industry is the promotion process. It is very common, that call centers, hire external applicants for some higher positions. That was disappointing. The fact that a lot of their employee has great potential, and was aiming to be promoted. I can really relate, since such scenario happened to me. The recruitment will not even announce that they hired externally if you would not follow up from them. It sucks, since they are, suppose to prioritize the welfare of their own employees. Some companies were proud to state that someone’s career starts in their company. That is correct you career starts with them, without knowing that you are actually becoming stagnant.
Since, I left the industry I was able to breathe and refresh, from all the stress. I could not deny the fact that the industry really helped me lot. My personality has improved. The industry has something to do with my good accent. My communication skills has developed and I am more confident than ever, most especially in communicating with the higher level of an organization. I also become a power player. My experience taught me how to play my cards in life. Now, I can psych who is just playing their game and who is not. In the end, life is a game that needs to be played, sometimes you might even need to gamble. Make sure, though that everytime you play a game of life, you will win. Since, if you end up loosing it will break you into pieces. I hate loosing, that is why when I play my game I make sure that I am getting even. The industry influenced me to be strong individual.
We should always remember that behind every beautiful façade, there lies an ugly, dirty truth.
